Allen, Richard
(14 feb. 1760, Filadelfia, Pa.–26 mar. 1831, Filadelfia, EE.UU.).

Líder religioso estadounidense. Nació de padres esclavos y siendo niño su familia fue vendida a un hacendado de Delaware. Se convirtió al metodismo a los 17 años de edad, y cinco años más tarde fue autorizado para predicar. En 1786, rescatada su libertad, se estableció en Filadelfia donde se unió a la Iglesia metodista episcopal de san Jorge. La discriminación racial lo obligó a retirarse en 1787, pero ese mismo año transformó en una vieja herrería en la primera iglesia afroamericana de EE.UU. Richard Allen y sus seguidores construyeron la Iglesia metodista africana Bethel y en 1799 él mismo fue ordenado su ministro. En 1816 organizó una conferencia de líderes afroamericanos de la que surgió la Iglesia episcopal metodista africana y Allen fue nombrado su primer obispo.
